1. INTRODUCTION
******************************************************************************

Hi and Konnichi wa! Welcome to my FAQ for DDR Extreme 2 for the Playstation
2! I refer to this as a "FAQ/Walkthrough", but there's very little "walking
through" to be done with this game. Anyone familiar with Konami's most
famous member of the BEMANI series will know that there are few written tips
that can be given for the Dance Dance Revolution series. You have to trust
your own feet and your burning soul. However, I will, in this FAQ, give
you the heads-up on what the songs are, where they come from, and a few tips
to get you ready for tackling them.

******************************************************************************
2. FAQ
******************************************************************************

Q: What is Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2?

A: DDR Extreme 2 is Konami's latest foray into the DDR world as it gradually
makes its way to American shores.

Q: How does one play Dance Dance Revolution games?

A: It's actually pretty simple. Your "controller" has four directions: left,
down, up, and right, which are shown at the top of your play screen. You
select a song. As the song plays, arrows will start scrolling up to your top
line. When an arrow scrolling up reaches the line of arrows at the top, you
must "step" on the direction matching that arrow's direction. If two arrows
come up at once, you must press both at once. If a green "freeze" arrow
appears, you must hold that step at the beginning until the freeze arrow ends.

Q: How many songs in this mix?

A: 74. 24 open by default and the other 50 you have to unlock.

Q: How do I unlock new songs?

A: It's possible to unlock songs through Free Play or Advanced Mode by just
continually playing, but it's very slow. The faster way is to play through
Dance Master Mode. There are certain missions that unlock certain songs.
Also, it seems just repeatedly playing missions in DM Mode unlocks songs,
at least faster than the other modes.

Q: How do I unlock SAKURA?

A: One of the more popular selections in this mix, I'd wager. You first need
to get to Area D of Dance Master Mode, then follow this sequence for the
fastest and easiest trip there: D-03, D-15, D-20, D-21, D-38, then
sequentially up each mission all the way to D-47. It's not an easy run,
particularly the Supersonic Course at D-43, but you did want to earn the
song didn't you?

Q: Are there any more songs than the ones you have listed?

A: Nope. That's all. No MAX.(period). No bag. There's always next year.

Q: Can I turn off the corner buttons on my pad?

A: YES. Recovering from their mistake in the last mix, "Dance Play Settings"
has returned as an option, so you can play on the pad without worrying about
a misstep due to a large foot.

Q: Is the EyeToy required to play?

A: No. All there is to play is Hands & Feet Mode, which you can activate in
the options if the EyeToy is hooked up. All songs have the same difficulties
as they did for regular Single.

Q: Is this just like the DDR Extreme in the arcades?

A: Not really. For licensing reasons, the fact that the USA has missed
several old songs from previous mixes, and the introduction of brand new
songs for the American audience, we're given a hodgepodge of DDR material in
this mix from several different mixes, but mostly from the later mixes in
the arcades.

Q: Why isn't (insert song here) in this mix or any others?

A: Usually, it's directly related to the fact that, despite Konami's usage
of these songs for DDR, the songs are still owned by the songs' artists.
This means that the contract the artists have with Konami only refers to the
games they specify, which is generally the arcade mix, and (most of the time)
the corresponding Japanese Playstation console port. Getting the songs over
here is a whole other story, and I feel that we're lucky to get the songs that
we do. Of course, if your beef is why we don't get certain Konami Originals,
then I dunno what to tell you.

Q: Does this mix have Oni Mode?

A: Yes! Oni Mode and Nonstop Mode are now placed into one section called
"Course Mode" which is under the new Advanced Mode, which houses all
difficult modes of play.

Q: Does this mix have Mission Mode?

A: Yes! Now renamed "Dance Master Mode", this mode returns from last mix to
present you with unique challenges related to the gameplay.

Q: Just who is NAOKI?

A: Naoki Maeda has been with Konami for many years. He is the leader of
Konami AM Internal Sound Team, who are in charge of coming up with songs for
each new DDR release. He's responsible for many songs throughout DDR-dom,
under lots of artist names. He also has the support of other artists and
vocalists, such as Paula Terry, Thomas Howard, and Aaron G. His artist names
include, but are not limited to: Omega (the symbol), 1479, 180, 190, 190',
200, 270, 290, 8 bit, B3-PROJECT, BIG-O, BLUE DESTROYERS, Crystal Aliens,
DANDY MINIERO, d-complex, DJ KAZU, DE-SIRE, DIVAS, DR. VIBE, FACTOR-X, FIXX,
KTz, Luv UNLIMITED, mitsu-O!, MR. DOG, MUSTACHE MEN, N&S, N.M.R, NAOKI, NAOKI
190, NAOKI underground, NM, NO.9, NW260, RE-VENGE, RevenG, Stone Bros.,
TailBros, THE FINAL BAND, THE SURRENDERS, UZI-LAY, Z, ZZ. Some of these are
not actually names for Naoki, but sometimes artists he's used for vocals in
the songs.

Q: What is Dancemania?

A: A rather large series of albums, developed by Toshiba-EMI, which showcase
a lot of dance music from artists all over the world. Konami's BEMANI studio
has a long-standing partnership, where DDR gets Dancemania licenses (for
relatively cheap) while DDR plugs Dancemania in its games. There are a few
DM releases in this mix.

Q: What is beatmania?

A: Developed almost concurrently with DDR, BM is a series of games where you
use your fingers instead of your feet. You have a set of keys, like a piano,
and you have to tap those to create the music (each key tap adds music to the
playing score). Also, you have a turntable to "scratch", which also adds
sound. The original beatmania had 5 keys, beatmania IIDX has 7 keys (and is
the only one of the series still coming out with new mixes), and beatmania
III has 5 keys and a foot pedal. I refer to several songs as being "from
beatmania", and you too, will have a chance to play some of these songs in
their original format once beatmania (US PS2) hits stores in early 2006.

Q: What are Guitar Freaks and Drummania?

A: These ongoing series are favorites from BEMANI. Guitar Freaks uses a
guitar with three neck buttons and a "pick", which allows you to insert
music into the song. Drummania is similar, using a drum set. A few mixes
into the series, BEMANI got the wise idea of combining the two series,
giving each mix the same list, and allowing the machines to link up.

Q: What is Dance ManiaX?

A: This is a short-lived series that was made to showcase more Dancemania
tunes, as well as a bunch of Konami Originals. It's played with light beams,
and blocking them in time with the music.

Q: What is pop'n music?

A: This is a currently ongoing BEMANI series that is similar to beatmania,
only it just involves a bunch of colored buttons. It has a more cartoonish
look to it than other BEMANI series, and many of the songs are happy songs,
or songs from popular anime.

Q: What is Mambo A Go Go?

A: A one-shot experimental music game from BEMANI. This one involved three
conga drums, and is played much as you'd expect.

Q: Hey, did you know that (insert song here) was in (insert game here) first?

A: Well, please, if I've made mistakes, let me know. I pride myself on a
healthy knowledge of BEMANI, but no one's perfect. If something's wrong,
tell me.

Q: I think a genre you have listed is incorrect.

A: Tell me what you think it should be, but present a good case, because I've
asked a lot of people about this subject. However, if you're disputing a
genre that has a star (*) after it, then I won't bother, because those are
the official genres as Konami states.

Q: What song plays on Lesson Mode 1?

A: "Try 2 Luv. U" by S.F.M.P (featured in DDRMAX2).

Q: What song plays on Lesson Mode 2?

A: "A Stupid Barber" by Sho-T (featured in DDR Extreme).

Q: What song plays on Lesson Mode 3?

A: "BABY BABY GIMME YOUR LOVE" by DIVAS (featured in Konamix and DDRMAX).

Q: What song plays in the My Room screens?

A: "TOMORROW" by nc ft. Dreamscanner.

Q: What songs play over the Credits?

A: "Saturday Night Love" by Sota feat. Brenda V., followed by "SEDUCTION" by
nc ft. FINALFORCE.

---

Select Music

Use Left and Right to switch songs. Tap Up or Down to change the difficulty.
Press X or Circle to select.

Press Start to access the Quick Menu. From here you can change the sorting
of the list, save your progress, or check your records in one list.

Changing the sorting will change it from the default "by color" setup to an
alphabetical list where you can pick the letter, to by BPM from slowest to
fastest, and your "favorites", which is measured by the total score from all
your plays of the song divided by the number of the difficulty each time you
played.

Difficulties:

Beginner (BEG): Almost all songs are 1-footers. You also have an on-screen
dancer stepping the steps along with you. Don't play this for too long if
you wish to get better.
Light (LGT): Most songs range from 2 to 5 feet. This is pretty simple if
you're getting used to DDR.
Standard (STD): Most songs range from 4 to 7 feet. Largely, you'll find that
steps reflect how the music goes, as opposed to just being on the beat.
Heavy (HVY): Most songs range from 6 to 10 feet. These are the tough ones
where they focus on two things: matching the song's notes exactly, and/or
kicking up the difficulty to give you pains.
Challenge (CHA): A special "second Heavy" difficulty. Only certain songs have
this difficulty, some as the only difficulty.

At the bottom of the screen, you'll see the BPM for the song, which may be
dynamic, which brackets the "Groove Radar", which gives a detailed look at
the song.

Groove Radar: This is a graphical representation of the difficulty of the
song. It's broken down into five attributes:
- Stream: More or less the overall number of steps.
- Voltage: How many steps are sandwiched into how much time. Higher voltage
means more steps in less time.
- Air: The overall number of double steps (time spent in the air).
- Freeze: The overall number and length of freeze arrows.
- Chaos: The number of weird steps (not straight 1/4 and 1/8, or steps that
force you turn as you step).

If you can't figure out what song you want, you can select ROULETTE. This
will start the song list rolling. Press X to stop it. It's tough to get it
to stop on a song you want, though. Once your song's picked, you can still
adjust the difficulty.

Also, in this mix, you can select RANDOM. This will automatically pick a
random song at the current difficulty. You will not be able to adjust
anything once you hit the RANDOM button.

Select EDIT DATA and you pick some of the Edits you've thrown together.

---

Select Options

You must select the options at the bottom of the difficulty list in this mix.
No, holding down X or Circle anymore.

Speed: This is the speed of the arrows on the screen. It doesn't affect the
speed of the song, just the arrows.
Boost: If turned on, the arrows will gradually speed up as they move on the
game screen.
Appearance: "Visible" is the normal setting. If "Hidden" is on, the arrows
will vanish about half-way. If "Sudden" is on, the arrows will appear about
half-way. If "Stealth" is on, you won't see the arrows at all.
Turn: "Off" is normal. "Mirror" rotates all arrows 180 degrees. "Left"
rotates them 90 degrees to the left. "Right" in the other direction.
"Shuffle" specifically picks two sets of arrows and reverses their roles,
giving a new somewhat random selection that doesn't fall under Mirror, Left,
or Right.
Little: Turning this on will remove all non-quarter notes from the song. It
won't give you a good chance for a high score, though.
Dark: Turning this on will remove the Step Zone from the screen.
Simultaneous Step: Turning this to "Off 1" will make all jumps into single
steps. Turning this to "Off 2" will remove jumps entirely.
Scroll: "Standard" is normal bottom to top scrolling. "Reverse" is, oddly
enough, scrolling from top to bottom.
Freeze Arrow: You can turn the Freeze Arrows off.
Step: Another chance to change the difficulty of your song.

---

Are You Ready?

The main field consists of the arrows and the Step Zone, which is a line of
arrows on the screen. As the song plays, arrows will begin scrolling along
the screen. As the arrows reach the Step Zone, you need to step on those
arrows. If you see a green Freeze Arrow, you need to step on that arrow and
hold it until the Freeze Arrow ends (you don't need to remove your foot when
it ends, just stay on it until it ends, and move your foot at your leisure).

On the top of the screen is the Dance Meter. It starts about half full. As
you step properly, it'll fill more. If you misstep, your Dance Meter will
start emptying. If it empties completely, game over.

On the bottom of the screen is the difficulty (in case you forgot), and your
score as it tallies up.

Also in the middle of the screen, you'll see words pop up as you step:

MARVELLOUS: You stepped precisely on the arrow. This needs to be turned on
in the Options to see in Free Play Mode, but is automatically on in Advanced
and Training Mode. For Free Play, it's ranked no better than a PERFECT.
PERFECT: You stepped more or less precisely on the arrow. Combo continues,
the dance meter increases, and you get the maximum possible score from that
step.
GREAT: You just about stepped on the arrow. Combo continues, the dance meter
increases, and you get half the maximum possible score for the step.
GOOD: You're off on the step by a bit. Combo stops, but the dance meter
doesn't change. You get no points.
ALMOST: You're off on the step by quite a bit. Combo stops, and your dance
meter decreases. You get no points.
BOO: You completely missed the step. Combo stops, and your dance meter
decreases. You get no points.

OK!: You stepped on the whole Freeze Arrow. You get the normal maximum score
for a step.
NG: You stepped off the Freeze Arrow before it ended. Combo continues, but
your Dance Meter will decrease. You get no points.

Also marked on the screen is your combo, which is how many PERFECTS and GREATS
you have in a row. The announcer will tell you when you hit 100 combo, 200,
etc.

---

Evaluation

Once you complete the song, you'll see an Evaluation Screen. You'll receive
a letter grade, a tally on how many of each step you got, your maximum combo,
and your score.

Scoring is measured by the following algorithm:

X = The total number of standard steps (double steps count as one) +
(2 * the total number of Freeze Arrows)

Y = 70,000,000 / X

Each PERFECT and OK is worth Y points. Each GREAT is worth Y/2 points. All
other types of steps are worth no points.

So, your maximum possible score is 7 million, plus however many bonus points
you've received, which maxes at 10 million, I haven't figured out the bonus
algorithm, yet.

The grades are AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, and E.

The letter grade is determined by tallying up the number of Dance Points you
scored in the song (see above for how each step gives you Dance Points).

E is a failing grade.
D, C, B, and A are progressive grades based on your score (including bonus).
AA is given for a large score. To get this, you'll have to get a full
combo, since you get about an extra million bonus points for the full combo.
AAA is given for all PERFECTs and OKs on Freeze Arrows.

In addition to the letter, you'll get a star if you have a full combo.

---

EyeToy Play

Plug an EyeToy into one of the USB ports, then fire up Free Play Mode. The
game will ask if you wish to use the EyeToy, then give you the style. It
will give you the additional style select of "Hands & Feet". After selecting
that, you'll go to the song select screen.

You'll notice there are additional markers on the difficulties. Next to
every difficulty is a set of handprints. These are how difficult the hand
motions are for this song, on a level of one to two. Also available is a
special "Hands & Feet" step difficulty which focuses the steps so they
compliment the hand motions.

As you play, you'll have an image of what the EyeToy sees transposed onto the
screen. You need to move the image of yourself onto hand prints when they
scroll up to the Step Zone.

In addition, if you wish, you can just select the usual Single, Versus, or
Double while using the EyeToy and you get the same "Watch Me Dance" from
Extreme USA. Added to the "Quick Menu" (START button) is the selection of
"Camera", where you can check what the camera's seeing.

3D. Dancing Tips for the Beginner =
===================================

KEEP PRACTICING!

So, you've just got into DDR, eh? Good for you! You've become a part of a
cult sensation that still holds tons of respect in arcades across the country!
This game will probably seem quite overwhelming to you at first, especially
if you watch people play it and watch them do 9-footers. Don't sweat it.
You CAN be as good as them with the proper practice and effort.

If you really want to get into this, definitely use the Official DDR Pad.
There's no PS2 controller to use in the arcades, so learn the pad nice and
early. Most game stores have a few of these tucked away (possibly more, if
Konami's hyping this game like they should). If you're truly a beginner, you
may just want to start with a nice cheap pad. That way, if you find it's not
for you, you're not out a huge investment.

So, to begin, use the Lesson Mode the game provides you. It will walk you
through the basics and coach you to be a better dancer.

Despite the Lesson Mode, here are some tips I can give you as a beginner:

1. Get a good feeling for the beat. People who have performed with music have
an advantage. People in marching band have a serious advantage. ~_^ You'll
be stepping to the beat in these early stages, so get used to it now.

2. Now that you have the beat, you must "find the arrows". Yeah, sure. I
know they're right there in front of you, to your sides, and behind you, but
can you hit them without looking? Early on, you'll find that's your biggest
problem: taking a step and not landing on the arrow. If you have to look,
look, but that tactic won't last forever, so before a song takes off, take
some cursory steps to make sure you're hitting arrows.

3. Keep your center. Especially on cheap pads with no definition, you'll find
yourself often taking leave of the center of the pad as you continue stepping.
If there's a break in the song, look down to make sure you're in the center.

4. Use the balls of your feet. You may notice, after some days of a lot of
playing, that your ankles will start hurting. That's normal, and it's
happened to most everyone I know that DDRs. This is your feet telling you to
not step with your heels, but with the front of the foot. Get into that
habit.

5. Now that you have these basics, and the Lesson Mode (largely) completed,
head into Beginner Mode and start tackling songs. In particular, get used to
the speed of the songs, as well as the speeding-up, slowing-down, and stopping
some songs do. When that just gets too easy, take a deep breath and head into
the real DDR world with Light Mode. Try to keep your songs at three feet or
below, but don't be afraid to venture out into the great unknown.

3E. Dancing Tips for the Intermediate =
=======================================

KEEP PRACTICING!

Well, you're definitely not a n00b anymore (pardon my French). You're at the
point where you wouldn't completely humiliate yourself at the arcades, but
you probably won't impress many people there. In fact, you may just bore them
with your simple steps. It's time to go to the next level.

At this point in your career, it's time to consider a new pad. For me, this
meant going to redoctane.com and ordering their standard soft pad. This pad
has a soft bottom which won't slip or bunch up as much. It's still not a
serious pad, but you could do worse with fifty bucks.

So, first tip is to KNOW THE SONGS. You don't necessarily need to memorize
the steps, but have a basic understanding of the song before you go into it.
Even memorize the music itself, the lyrics, etc. so you can whistle along.
Know where the tempo changes may occur, where stops are. Most importantly,
know where the songs musical notes occur in the melody, because these will
be mostly what you step.

Now that we're heading into dangerous territory, there is one big rule that
I have to stress right away:

Remember how in the last part I told you to "find your center"? Well, you've
found it by now, so now it's time to GET OFF IT. That's a crutch that's
let you into the game, but it will hold you back later on. What you have to
learn is to return your feet to the center as rarely as possible, if at all.
Move your feet from one arrow to the next, and don't move them unless you have
an arrow to go to. This is probably the hardest thing you'll ever have to
learn as a DDR player. Once you've relinquished your grip on the center, you
only stand to improve up to the highest reaches of DDR-dom.

This actually leads to the other major point of going intermediate:

Eighth notes. Those are those off-colored ones. You'll have to deal with
a lot of them, so learn to love them now. This is actually a good first step
to leaving the center, because you are absolutely required to step three or
more arrows in succession, and you'll have no time to return to the center at
all. Use groups of three eighth notes to figure how to properly move between
arrows; combinations such as up-left-down, where your right foot goes on up,
left foot goes on left, and your right foot is already carrying back towards
the down arrow, for example. Once you get strings of three down, you'll be
ready to tackle longer strings, of four, five, seven, even nine if they're
not too tangly.

So, for this end, you'll want to go for songs of four to six feet in
difficulty, as well as treading into the pink pink waters of Standard Mode.
Just about all songs of this difficulty have at least several eighth notes
to give you practice. Take these opportunities to develop your step
combinations for your own style, so you'll be ready to use them when they
appear again in harder songs.

Also, it may behoove you to get into Workout Mode or Endless Mode and
repeatedly hammer some songs, particularly those of a brisk pace. This is a
good first step to building up all-important stamina.

===================================
3F. Dancing Tips for the Advanced =
===================================

KEEP PRACTICING!

All right. You're through messing around, and through getting condescending
looks from your peers at the arcade. It's time to show them what you can
really do and kick it up a notch or three.

If you're really serious now, it's once again time for a new pad. Although
7, 8, and even some 9-footers are possible on a soft, flimsy pad, you just
won't get the high scores you cherish. For this, I turned to RedOctane's
Ignition 2.0. It's also a soft pad, but the thick foam insert, soft gripping
bottom, and raised step platforms make it a good pad for aspiring champions,
all for a paltry 100 clams.

Of course, if you have the money to blow (approximately $300), you may want
to take it even further and buy the Cobalt Flux pad, which is a custom-made
hard metal pad. It's VERY resilient, and much like pads you'll see in the
arcades.

Anyway, pads aside, it's time to get down to business:

First, you better have mastered the stuff from the previous sections. I want
to be able to yell out a song title and for you to hum it right there so you
know what it sounds like. I don't wanna see your feet touch that center,
soldier, or you'll drop and give me fifty. At this point, you should also
have quick enough eye-foot coordination so that matching arrows on the screen
with proper steps is second-nature.

Now, for some new tactics:

Chaos. You'll soon find as you reach the higher levels, that not all arrows
are quarter notes and eighth notes. You'll find sixteenths, twelfths, and
thirty-second notes thrown in to mess you up. Very rarely will they be in
random. Almost always, they'll match up with how the song goes, so you'll
at least have that going for you. So, a thorough knowledge of the songs will
allow you to surmount this hurdle with little difficulty.

Taps. This is the name I like to give eighth notes all on the same arrow.
These are always a pain, because you have to train your foot to tap rapidly on
the same arrow for a possibly long time, and it can really wear you out.
There's no easy way to get around this, you just have to learn it as you go.

Gallops. This is the popular name for a series of steps that has two
sixteenth note steps together, then two sixteen notes of dead space, then two
note steps together, and so on. When you step these notes, you'll feel like
a horse gallopping, which derives the name. Oftentimes, these notes will be
strung so that the last note in one gallop is the first note of the next
gallop. To properly step these, leave your last-stepping foot in place, so
it'll be ready to step the next gallop while your other foot moves to the
next note. This leads to the final tactic.

Axis of Rotation or "crossovers". Contrary to popular belief, you do not have
to have your upper body directly facing the screen at all times. A very
important tactic for the toughest songs is turning your body so that making
truly difficult steps becomes easier. Using alternating feet on long series'
of eighth notes is far less taxing than taking two or more eighth notes with
one foot. The best way to start turning your body is with left-down-right
eighth note combos. Left foot on the left arrow, right foot on the down, and
turn so that your left foot hits the right arrow. It'll be very disorienting
at first, but the hard songs will really take it out of you if you don't
learn. After learning a basic turn, learn to maintain your body at a 90
degree angle to the screen for extended periods of time, and then taking it
further by rotating 180 degrees, or even 270 and 360, if you're brave enough
to take your eyes off the screen.

Finally, it's important to be in relatively good shape for this. You have to
have the proper stamina and leg strength to pull off the toughest ones,
because rather dexterous and tiring feats will be required of you, so keep
pounding at it, do hard songs repeatedly to build up strength, and push
yourself harder and harder to go all the way up to the great green Heavy
Mode.

And lastly, never tackle 10-footers without a good insurance plan backing
you up. ^_^

==============================
3G. Dancing Tips for Doubles =
==============================

KEEP PRACTICING!

Get ready to relearn DDR all over again as you branch out towards the second
pad.

First of all, it'd be best you get good pads for this. Soft flat mats are
just no good at all, since they'll slide apart and over each other. Even
Ignition Pads are tough for this, since they can move as well, unless you
can find some way to lash them together. The best, naturally, is the Cobalt
Flux dual setup, which you can connect.

Okay, you probably should begin your Doubles career after at least mastering
Standard on Single, but it's best on Heavy.

One of the greatest things to "unlearn" from Single Play is to be able to
move your entire body. When playing Single, you'll generally maintain your
upper body in one place spatially, but that definitely won't fly on Doubles.

Crossovers take on a whole new meaning when playing on higher levels on
Double Play. In a general sense, you'll be playing with your left foot on
the right arrow on the left pad, while your right foot will be on the left
arrow on the right pad. A lot of the stepcharts on Doubles are engineered so
you dance around that setup.

After that, it's all pretty much getting used to the new setup. Practice and
practice some more. Build up your stamina, learn how to read eight arrows,
and know where to step.

4A. AGAINST ALL ODDS (TAKE A LOOK AT ME NOW) =
==============================================

Artist: Dj Vu featuring Tasmin
Genre: Euro Dance
BPM: 139

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: Quite easy, even for a seven-footer. The only time you'll have
streams of any length is on the chorus, and the only tough part about those
is that they'll make you crossover a bit.

---

Lyrics:

How can you just walk away from me
When all I can do is watch you leave
'Cause we've shared the laughter and the pain
And even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now
'Cause there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against the odds
That is what I've gotta take

I wish I could just make you turn around
Turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you
So many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now
'Cause there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me
Just the memory of your face

Take a good look at me now
'Cause I'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance I've got to take

4B. As the Rush Comes (Gabriel & Dresden Sweeping Strings Radio Edit) =
=======================================================================

Artist: Motorcycle
Genre: Atmospheric Trance
BPM: 136

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 5 5
STD: 6 6
HVY: 8 7

Heavy Notes: Not all that easy, really. This song plays two types of games.
The first involves freezes requiring you to hold one arrow while manipulating
another. The second involves following the synthesizers in chaotic
patterns. The patterns are generally more trouble, involving odd gallops
that end up throwing you around the pad.

Lyrics:

Traveling somewhere, could be anywhere
There's a coldness in the air but I don't care
We drift deeper
Life goes on
We drift deeper
Into the sound

Traveling somewhere, could be anywhere
There's a coldness in the air but I don't care
We drift deeper into the sound
Life goes on
We drift deeper into the sound
Feeling strong
So bring it on
So bring it on

Embrace me
Surround me as the rush comes
Embrace me
Surround me as the rush comes
Embrace me
Surround me as the rush comes
Oh, embrace me
Surround me as the rush comes

So bring it on
So bring it on

We drift deeper into the sound
Life goes on
We drift deeper into the sound...

Artist: SMiLE.dk
Genre: Speedy Euro Beat
BPM: 170

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 5
STD: 6 7
HVY: 8 8
CHA: 9 9

Heavy Notes: Mid-length streams populate this speedy song (five to seven
steps, maybe a few more). There are a few jumps at the end of streams,
but nothing particularly harrowing. Just keep up, is all.

Challenge Notes: The streams have become longer and more difficult, with
crossovers, jumps, gallops, and same-arrow taps. It's now a lot more
exhausting.

---

Lyrics:

Ay, iyaiyai
Ay, iyaiyai
A-a-a iyaiyai
Where's my samurai

Ay, ay, ay,
I'm your little butterfly
Green, black and blue
Make the colors in the sky
Ay, ay, ay, I'm your little butterfly
Green, black and blue
Make the colours in the sky

Where's my samurai
Where's my samurai

I've been searching for a man
All across Japan
Just to find, to find my samurai
Someone who is strong
But still a little shy
Yes I need, I need my samurai

Ay, ay, ay
I'm your little butterfly
Green, black and blue
Make the colors in the sky
Ay, ay, ay, I'm your little butterfly
Green, black and blue
Make the colors in the sky

Where's my samurai
Where's my samurai

I've been searching in the woods
And high upon the hills
Just to find, to find my samurai
Someone who won't regret
To keep me in his net
Yes I need, I need my samurai

Ay, ay, ay
I'm your little butterfly
Green, black and blue
Make the colors in the sky
Ay, ay, ay, I'm your little butterfly
Green, black and blue
Make the colors in the sky

Artist: BARBIE YOUNG
Genre: Speedy Euro Beat
BPM: 170

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 4
STD: 7 7
HVY: 9 9

Heavy Notes: Arguably one of the toughest nine-footers on record. Oh sure,
there are faster songs, but few throw you such varied sets as this one. One
second you're holding a freeze and slamming eighths with your other foot,
another you're galloping in a crossover pattern, another you're dancing
streams with jumps thrown in all over the place. This one takes practice and
stamina. It'll crawl ya.

---

Lyrics:

We are what we're supposed to be
Illusions of your fantasy
All dots and lines that speak and say
What we do is what you wish to do

We are the color symphony
We do the things you want to see
Frame by frame, to the extreme

Our friends are so unreasonable
They do the unpredictable
All dots and lines that speak and say
What we do is what you wish to do

It's all an orchestra of strings
Doing unbelievable things
Frame by frame, to the extreme
One by one we're making it fun

We are the cartoon heroes, oh
We are the ones who are gonna last forever
We came out of a crazy mind, oh
And walked out on a piece of paper and...

Here comes Spiderman, arachnophobian
Welcome to the toon town party
Here comes Superman, from never neverland
Welcome to the toon town party
There's still more to come
And everyone will be
Welcomed at the toon (toon) town (town) party

BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 6

Heavy Notes: Slow and steady streams, but none too long. About the only thing
truly worth noting for this song is the chorus where the steps follow the
music.

---

Lyrics:

I look and stare so deep in your eyes
I touch on you more and more every time
When you leave I'm begging you not to go
Call your name two or three times in a row
Such a funny thing for me to try to explain
How I'm feeling and my pride is the one to blame
'Cause I know I don't understand
Just how your love you're doing no one else can

Got me looking so crazy right now, your love's
Got me looking so crazy right now (in love)
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now (your touch)
Got me hoping you'll page me right now, your kiss
Got me hoping you'll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love's
Got me looking, got me looking so crazy in love.

Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no, no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no, no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no, no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no, no

When I talk to my friends so quietly
Who he think he is? Look at what you did to me
Tennis shoes, don't even need to buy a new dress
If you ain't there ain't nobody else to impress
The way that you know what I thought I knew
It's the beat my heart skips when I'm with you
But I still don't understand,
Just how the love you're doing no one else can.

Got me looking so crazy right now, your love's
Got me looking so crazy right now (in love)
Got me looking so crazy right now, your touch
Got me looking so crazy right now (your touch)
Got me hoping you'll page me right now, your kiss
Got me hoping you'll save me right now
Looking so crazy in love's,
Got me looking, got me looking so crazy in love.

Lyrics:

I feel like I've been locked up tight
For a century of lonely nights
Waiting for someone
To release me

You're licking your lips and blowing kisses my way
But that don't mean I'm gonna give it away
Baby, baby, baby

4K. I will Survive =
====================

Artist: AKIRA feat. Daline
Genre: Disco/Breakbeats
BPM: 132

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 6 5
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: Largely streams with some crossovers. Mind the few gallops in
the streams so you don't get thrown off. Late in the song, you'll face a
few small clusters of sixteenths.

---

Lyrics:

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
Without you by my side
But, I spent so many nights
Thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
And so you're back
From outer space
I just walked in to find you here
With that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
You'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
You think I'd crumble
You think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I

I will survive
As long as I know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

I will survive

I will survive

4L. IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT =
==============================

Artist: E-ROTIC
Genre: Euro Dance
BPM: 136

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 4
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: The beginning is simple short streams. All seems nice until the
chorus, which the first time through is one long stream, which stops. The
second chorus is ANOTHER long stream, which continues on past to the
instrumental chorus. These streams aren't fast, but they have their share
of crossovers. The end has a little bit of chaos for spice.

---

Lyrics:

In the heat of the night
In the heat of the night

Why did our feelings die in action?
When we fought for satisfaction?
But our hearts sent S.O.S.
Please save me
Why did our love lose all its magic?
Missing you is kind of tragic
We were heatin' for the best

In the heat of the night
Much too close to the fire
And the power of our hearts
Made us weak by desire

In the heat of the night
Much too close to the fire
And the power of our hearts
Made us weak by desire

In the heat of the night
In the heat of the night
In the heat of the night (tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight.)

Song Type: License
First Appearance: DDR 4th Mix (Arcade)
Artist Notes: E-ROTIC has been several people throughout the years. The
original group was Lyane Leigh (who later became missing heart) and Richard
Michael Smith. This song was released by Ch Jouaner and Jeanette

4M. IRRESISTIBLEMENT =
======================

Artist: WILDSIDE
Genre: Speedy Euro Beat
BPM: 166

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 6 6
HVY: 9 8

Heavy Notes: Very spirited. Long streams, plenty of crossovers. The verse
section in the middle has gallops for added flavor. Don't expect much else,
just a lot of it.

---

Lyrics:

Tout m'entrane
Irrsistiblement vers toi, comme le vent
Tout m'enchane
Irrsistiblement toi, je le sens

Comme la mer qui frapp le rocher
Obstinment sans jamais dsarmer
Par le malheur on est souvent frapp
Mais l'amour seul peut nous sauver

Tout m'entrane
Irrsistiblement vers toi, comme le vent
Tout m'enchane
Irrsistiblement toi, je le sens

English Translation:

Everything carries me
Irresistibly to you, like the wind
Everything connects me
Irresistibly to you, I feel it

Like the sea hitting the rocks
Obstinately without ever ceasing
By misfortune we are always hitting
But love alone can save us

Everything carries me
Irresistibly to you, like the wind
Everything connects me
Irresistibly to you, I feel it

---

Song Type: License
First Appearance: DDR Extreme (Arcade)
Artist Notes: One of the many acts produced under "Factory Team" and Mauro
Farina. Dunno much about them apart from that.
Misc. Notes: This is a remix/cover of the original song by Sylvie Vartan,
released in the 1960's.

========================
4N. LA COPA DE LA VIDA =
========================

Artist: PATRICK VICTORIO
Genre: Latin Pop
BPM: 134

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: Mid-length streams for most of this song. Places to keep your
eyes open are where percussion gets heavy: both just after the beginning and
just before the chorus, because the steps will get chaotic to follow the
drums. Watch on the main melody, because the third line has an extra step in
the beginning of the stream.

---

Lyrics:

Go go go (go go go)
Ale ale ale (ale ale ale)

Go (go)
Go (go)
Go go go go go here we go
Si!

The cup of life, this is the one
Now is the time, don't ever stop
Push it along, gotta be strong
Push it along, right to the top

Como Cain y Abel, es un partido cruel
Tienes que pelear, por una estrella
Consigue con honor, la copa del amor
Para sobrevivir y luchar por ella (yeah)
Luchar por ella (yeah)
Do you really want it... (si)

Here we go, ale ale ale
Go go go, ale ale ale
Tonight's the night, we're gonna celebrate
The cup of life, ale ale ale

Un dos tres, ale ale ale
Un deux trois, ale ale ale
Arriba va, el mundo esta de pie
Go go go, ale ale ale

Go (go)

Song Type: License
First Appearance: DDR Extreme (Arcade)
Artist Notes: Patrick Victorio is a vocalist used for this tune when it
appeared in the Dancemania Sports album.
Misc. Notes: This is a slight remix of the tune made popular by vocalist Ricky
Martin.

=================================
4O. LOOK AT US (Daddy DJ Remix) =
=================================

Artist: SARINA PARIS
Genre: Euro Dance
BPM: 135

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 2 2
STD: 6 5
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: Deceptively tricky. Seems simple in the opener, with some offbeat
hits, then we get to the bridge, which has quite a few odd steps, gallops,
sixteenths. That calms down in the later stanzas, but it's still there up
to the end.

---

Lyrics:

For all the times that we
We ever wouldn't be
Look at us, baby
Look at us now
For everyday that I
Should have you by my side
We'll make it baby
Look at us now

For every night I pray
I know that you will stay
Look at us, baby
Look at us now
Remembering the time
Our love was made so fine
We made it baby
Look at us now
Baby, look at us

(Everybody believed we would never be) Baby, look at us
(Look at us up above, we are so in love) Baby, look at us
(Everyday in your arms, baby can't go wrong) Baby, look at us
(We are strong, look at us now) Baby, look at us

Baby, look at us
Baby, look at us
Baby, look at us

For every night I dream
Together you and me
Look at us, baby
Look at us now
And like a flower blooms
The glowing of the moon
We'll make it baby
Look at us now

For everyone believed
That we could never be
Look at us, baby
Look at us now
Now all the hurt is gone
I knew it all along
We made it, baby
Look at us now
Baby, look at us

Artist: Armand Van Helden
Genre: House
BPM: 128

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 5 6
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: It starts being mostly following the "My My My" lyrics, then as
it works on, it starts to focus on the syncopated galloping that's kind of
hidden in the background to start with, so listen carefully for those.

---

Lyrics:

My, my, my
My, my, my
(Whoaaa)
Whoaa
How did we ever get this way
Where's it gonna go

My, my, my
My, my, my
(Oooh Ooooh wee)
Ooh

4Q. Oops!... I Did It Again =
=============================

Artist: AKIRA feat. Susan Z
Genre: Dance Pop
BPM: 96

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 4 4
HVY: 6 6

Heavy Notes: This would be the resident "slow and easy, even on Heavy" song.
It could get messy once the streams start to go for a while, and
crossover, but it's really nothing to worry about.

---

Lyrics:

I think I did it again
I made you believe we're more than just friends
Oh baby
It might seem like a crush
But it doesn't mean that I'm serious
'Cause to lose all my senses
That is just so typically me
Oh baby, baby

Oops!.. I did it again
I played with your heart
Got lost in the game
Oh baby, baby
Oops!.. you think I'm in love
That I'm sent from above
I'm not that innocent

Oops!.. I did it again
I played with your heart
Got lost in the game
Oh baby, baby
Oops!.. you think I'm in love
That I'm sent from above
I'm not that innocent

Song Type: Licensed Cover
First Appearance: Karaoke Revolution Vol. 3
DDR Debut: BRAND NEW
Artist Notes: AKIRA maaaay be Akira Yamaoka, given the sound of the song,
but there's no proof, and Susan Zelinsky is the vocalist from when this cover
was recorded for KR.
Misc. Notes: This is a cover of the song made popular by Britney Spears,
released in 2000. While this is the first time this version has appeared,
the song technically appeared in DDR 5th Mix by ROCHELLE as a "FIRED UP MIX".

===========================
4R. Play That Funky Music =
===========================

Artist: wg feat. Tony L
Genre: Funk
BPM: 108

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 2 3
STD: 4 4
HVY: 6 6

Heavy Notes: The only thing of note here is the off-beats that appear in the
latter half of many of the measures in this song. It's classic funk, and
it goes for much of the first half, and then it settles into basic streams
with just a couple of gallops.

---

Lyrics:

Hey, give it to me now
Yeah, hey

Yeah, once I was a boogie singer
Playing in a rock-n-roll band
I never had no problems (yeah)
Rolling down the one night stands
And everything around me (yeah)
I decided so quickly (Yes I did)
To disco down and check out the show

And they were dancin'
And singin'
And movin' to the groovin'
And just when
It hit me
Somebody turned around and shouted

Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down the boogie
And play that funky music till you die (till you die)

Yeah, yeah

---

Song Type: Licensed Cover
First Appearance: BRAND NEW
Artist Notes: wg is most probably the "WaveGroup Sound" crew that did the
sound for the KR series, and Tony Lindsay is the vocalist.
Misc. Notes: This is a cover of the song made popular by Wild Cherry,
released in 1976.

4S. Pump Up The Volume =
========================

Artist: M/A/R/R/S
Genre: House
BPM: 114

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 8

Heavy Notes: A repetitive song deserves repetitive steps, and this one
doesn't disappoint. Syncopated gallops dotted all over the place, and
chaotic steps that follow the music. It gets really messy near the end, so
stay sharp.

---

Lyrics:

Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume
Dance dance

Rythmatic, systematic world control
Magnetic, genetic, dement your soul
Rythmatic, systematic world control
Magnetic, genetic, dement your soul
Rythmatic, systematic world control

Rythmatic, systematic world control
Magnetic, genetic, dement your soul

Put the needle on the record
Put the needle on the record
Put the needle on the record

When the song beats go like this

Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume
Pump up the volume

4T. Silence (Airscape Remix) =
==============================

Artist: Delerium feat. Sarah McLachlan
Genre: Trance
BPM: 136

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 4
STD: 5 6
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: The opening is relatively tame, only watch the offbeat freezes.
The song truly picks up once the synth takes over, where you'll have a
multi-crossover stream with sixteenths in-between. Focus hard on that.
After that, you're mostly focused on chaotic but more spaced steps.

---

Lyrics:

Give me relief
Witness me
I am outside
Give me peace

Heaven holds a sense of wonder
And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up
When the rage in me subsides

Passion chokes the flower
'Til she cries no more

Genre: Speedy Euro Beat
BPM: 169

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 6 5
HVY: 8 9

Heavy Notes: This song is about evenly split between gallops and streams. In
other words, lots of gallops. Be sure to watch to be able to differentiate
between what's a stream and what's a gallop.

---

Lyrics:

Beethoven, Beethoven, Beethoven
Beethoven, Beethoven, Beethoven

Into the night
You'll make me cry
I need your love
To save my life

I need you while my piano gently weeps
Listen to Beethoven

A melody
Will set you free
You need my love
Deep in your mind

I need you while my piano gently weeps
Music gonna save your life

Into the night (Into the night)

Heavy Notes: Oddly large amount of jumps, really. Also, in the latter half
of the song, you'll be doing a few tricks with freeze arrows, so pay
attention to when you should leave your foot or not.

---

Lyrics:

Paint it black and white and easy
Ive seen attention
See through me
I want perfection
Im real need

Call on me
Spin spin sugar
Crawl on me
Spin spin sugar

Artist: Fatboy Slim
Genre: Big Beat
BPM: 160

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 6 6
STD: 8 8
HVY: 8 8

Heavy Notes: Almost entirely straight streams with lots of crossover. Not
much besides that and like one freeze arrow. The difficulty just comes
from the large amount of streams.

---

Lyrics:

Yeh, yeh yeh yeh yeh
Uhm hmm hm hm

It's a wonderful night
You've gotta take it from me
It's a wonderful night

Come on and break it on down

It's a wonderful night
Go ahead and release
It's a wonderful night

Come on and break it on down

You know the music search engine need a tune-up
Soon as they out the gate they all a wanna hear da corner, uh-huh
Well that was cool but now but then I heard a rumor, uh-huh
Your crew was ridin' for the White Cliffs of Dover, uh-huh

Uh, let me tell ya how we do it in California
We'll have you on the run just like a puma
If it don't move us
Ain't paid ya dues and it ain't gonna get our roosers
We gonna lose ya to the consumer solution c'mon

It's a wonderful night
You've gotta take it from me
It's a wonderful night

Come on and break it on down

It's a wonderful night
You've gotta shake it for me
It's a wonderful night

Come on and break it on down

Girl I want it you got it
Your body's like a narcotic
The thought is auto-erotic

Come on and break it on down

Can I get it on credit
I guess your brick-house I'll bet it
Take it as far as you'll let it

Come on and break it on down

That the spot will get hot
That its ready to pop
Don't even look at the clock
All of your problems forgotten
It's time to rock till you drop
Feel the force and just flock
To the epicenter of the party's bass drummers c'mon

It's a wonderful night
You've gotta take it from me
It's a wonderful night

Come on and break it on down

It's a wonderful night
You've gotta shake it for me
It's a wonderful night

Come on and break it on down

UNLOCK: Mission B-08

Artist: NAOKI
Genre: Ultra Rock Beat
BPM: 150

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: Mostly small streams throughout. The opener has a few gallops,
but they're separated for an easy feel. A few times you'll come from streams
to a jump. Not too much to sweat about.

---

Lyrics:

Ooooooo

Ooooooo (Go, go!)

Ohhhh!

Play it four on the floor
Gonna turn it loose
Move your sexy legs
And you'll feel the groove

Gonna go really far
Go, step for me now
Let the party go on
In a way, you're going fine by me (Ohhh, ohhh)

C'mon, move like this
Wait too long, you've got nothing right there
Where you're standing, hell yeah, I'm the man
What else do you expect from my beautiful baby?

I want to take you where
(I want to take you where)
(Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go c'mon!)
We can party (We can party)
From dusk 'til dawn (1998!)

I know you feel (I know you feel)
(Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go c'mon!)
Like letting go (Let it go)
The music will make you high
The music has the power

Part two, are you with that (You can take me higher)
Tell me how you feel, make your body sweat
Like a sheer taste, start things again (You can take me higher)
Go X and Y, moving free

Party down, fellas live your dreams (You can take me higher)
Stay, don't miss the power again
Free that mind, work your body 'til you're wet and soakin'
(Oh, you can take me higher)
We're hot and smokin'!

You've got to free your mind (Let it go, let it go, let it go!)
And then (C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon!)
Work that body (Work that body)
Come on get down (1998!)

Oh, go with me (oh, go with me)

Genre: Epic Trance
BPM: 144

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 4
STD: 6 7
HVY: 6 7

Play Notes: The end of this song slows down considerably right to the last
note.

Heavy Notes: Definitely not as tough as the original. It's mostly small
streams. The thing that might throw you is the large number of freezes, and
a few odd tricks they try do with them.

---

Song Type: Konami Original
First Appearance: DDR Ultramix
Artist Notes: Thuggie D. is a psuedonym for "Gamebeat", a sound group that
Konami of Hawaii hired to create new songs for Ultramix. They're headed by
Darryl S. Duncan, most probably where the "D" came from. This is a remix of
the classic tune of the same name by dj TAKA, featured in DDR Konamix and
DDR Extreme USA.
Misc. Notes: The stepcharts are actually taken from DDR Festival, which is a
slightly modified version of the original DDR Ultramix charts.

Heavy Notes: The streams are quite small in this song, and pretty simple.
You'll find a few crossovers, but they're also simple. The only part that
could trip you up would be a few odd freeze arrows in the beginning and end.

---

First Appearance: beatmania 6th Mix

around the pad. At the end, the last stream has lots of jumps in it.

---

Lyrics:

Everyone's hypnotized! (and variations on that)

English Translation:

Sweet lover... yeah yeah yeah...
Doo-doo-doodoo doo doo doodoo do
La la la, forever...

Like a dream, soon things like
I've only imagined before will come to me.
This love song marks the beginning because
now you're the only one who can turn my feelings to love.

Everyday and everywhere a rainbow spreads across our hearts
All seven colors of that melody flow into the sky as far as we can see.
Everyday and every time, echoing in our hearts
Is a sweet harmony that will encompass our love as long as we are here.

La la lala...
Oooohh, yeah!

Everyday and everywhere, make sure of the love again
As we go, this feeling keeps on going, just like this song!
Everyday and every time, I'll always bring you
The rhythm that'll make you love me forever!

BPM: 150

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 3 3
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 7
CHA: 9 9

Heavy Notes: This song is mostly small streams with just a few crossovers.
There's a little bit of chaos in the beginning to match the song. Also,
there's a series of tough freeze steps in the middle.

Challenge Notes: MUCH tougher. Sixteenths are dotted all over the place and
there are some more difficult streams to deal with. There are a couple of
opportunities to face multiple clusters of sixteenths in a row.

Lyrics:

Feelin' blue
I'm thinking of you
And I was a fool to let you walk away (walk away)
Tears in my eyes today
Make my world
The color of blue

Red with a twist
Orange of fire
Green of tourmaline
Yellow, mellow, hello, hello
Paint me a smile
I am covered and colored with one, only one

'Cause baby I'm alone
Alone without you
What am I supposed to do?
I'm alone
Alone without you
I'm the color of blue

Feelin' blue
I'm thinking of you
And I was a fool to let you walk away
Tears in my eyes today

Artist Notes: dj TAKA should be no stranger to BEMANI fans. Often considered
to be just as popular (if not moreso) than Naoki, Takayuki Ishikawa has been
with Konami since beatmania IIDX. He's done many DDR and beatmania tunes.
The vocalist is listed as Chiyoko, a psuedonym for Sunny James, vocalist of

HVY: 8 8
CHA: 8 9

Play Notes: The song starts at 143, then picks up to 172 about a third of the
way through.

Heavy Notes: It's all streams, following the lyrics, naturally. The streams
aren't particularly long, mostly seven-steps for the most part with a few
getting longer (except the last few lines, which is one long stream), but the
steps themselves tend to involve crossovers a lot. There are also a few
jumps that end off the streams.

Challenge Notes: It's not TOO much harder (same foot-rating, after all), but
it's a bit more complicated in the streams. There are several streams that
repeated arrows of the same kind (taps), and more jumps ending streams.

35 plus 4 divided by 2, the partygoers who don't burst open don't know
This sociable sound demon screwing into an obtuse angle easily
They dunno where from or where to, but anyway he divided the sound
Everyone's winding chatter is a dangling handkerchief

An alteration in the radar and in the nonsense coming over the airwaves
If you start snorin', your heartbeat that's goin' up as much as your
personality changes
Is really greedy, but there's power and land of the priest's staff
And since I was born, I've kept on playin' like this.

Misc. Notes: "Dai kenkai" means "big opinion" in Japanese. "Janken", is more
locally known as "Rock, Paper, Scissors". "Don Pach" is one of two things,
a popular Japanese confectionary similar to pop rocks, or the sound a
machine gun makes (probably the latter). Oh, and the lyrics are really not
supposed to make sense.

Lyrics:

I'm a cool cat making waves all over town
When they see me coming everybody's heads turn 'round
With my twin cam, dual exhaust, and my ragtop down

I'm a ladies' man, just a terrible lousy freak

Play Notes: The song begins at 65 BPM, then speeds up after a few measures to
130 for the rest of the song.

Heavy Notes: This song is pretty basic for much of the first half, simple
streams and freezes. Once you get past the main chorus, it changes tack to
follow the piano, and later the saxophone, so expect some gallops and
chaotic steps.

---

Lyrics:

Ooooo, ohhhh, yeah, yeah

Ohhhhh

The promise of love turns to happiness
I lose myself, whenever I'm with you
The prince that I've waited for all of my life
And that tells me we're gonna do it

I need you, need you

STD: 6 6
HVY: 7 7
CHA: 9

Heavy Notes: The greatest difficulty is the song's length, nearly two minutes.
However, the steps aren't particularly difficult. Just some lengthy streams
and delayed chaos steps.

Challenge Notes: Two very VERY long streams in this song, one right at the
beginning, another at the halfway points, with freezes in it. When not in
those streams, you'll alternate between gallops and short streams.

Song Type: Konami Original
First Appearance: beatmania Append GOTTAMIX2 (JP PS1)
DDR Debut: DDR Ultramix
Artist Notes: Toshiyuki Kakuta is L.E.D., and started his Konami career in
beatmania. He's written many songs for Konami's rhythm games.
Misc. Notes: The Heavy steps are the Heavy steps from DDR Ultramix, but the
Challenge steps are actually the Heavy steps from DDR Festival.

Genre: Electric Cabaret*
BPM: 160

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 4
STD: 6 6
HVY: 7 7

Play Notes: There are two stops in this song, one several seconds in before
the song fully gets underway, and another just before the big chorus.

Heavy Notes: This is a swing song, and makes no excuses for it. All streams,
while not particularly difficult, have swing notes, which should be easy to
follow if you can keep with the rhythm. There are also a couple of spots
with twelfth-note clusters to watch for.

---

Song Type: Konami Original
First Appearance: beatmania IIDX 11 RED
DDR Debut: BRAND NEW
Artist Notes: Akira Yamaoka is best known as the composer for Konami's horror
series, Silent Hill. Of course, he's also very active as a composer for
beatmania IIDX and other BEMANI games.
Misc. Notes: This is not actually the song as it appears in IIDX RED. The
vocals by Sanae Shintani (see Miracle Moon) have been removed for this "Hina
Mix", due to the fact that they were a little too spicy for public
consumption (she says, in English, "touch me", "lick me", and "stroke me").

HVY: 6 7

Play Notes: There's a short stop in the music about ten seconds from the
end.

Heavy Notes: The slow speed makes this one pretty easy. Small to mid-length
streams, with some jumps in them. A few gallops in the second half, and
there are three spots with clusters of four sixteenths.

---

Lyrics:

(1, 2, 3, 4)

I want you now
My heart's on fire
As we turn-turn-turn
Into the long hot night

It's good for you love
I'm wanting your love
I know that you'll be better

I'm feelin' good

you'll have some double steps ending the streams. Also, you'll have to step
the synth brass hits, which aren't too difficult at all once you know them.

Challenge Notes: Longer streams, with some gallops to cap them off. Also
watch out for the multitude of freezes, and some small clusters of
sixteenths.

Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on doin' it
All new happy on your own (keep on, keep on, keep on, oh)
Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on doin' it (What about my love)
Hope you feel good, hope you feel better, ooh!

Oh yeah, that's right, you'll be alone
Why don't you get out, won't you feel the need
You got so much of what you like
You better looks at life, cause I've got this for you

Yeah, we want you to savor day, for you to get away
Now if you don't care about what I say, then you gotta think about the time
Because it's on your mind, it got your body goin'
In the motion, as I'm going through this flowing groove, it's funky

Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on doin' it
All new happy on your own (keep on, keep on, keep on, oh)
Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on doin' it (What about my love)
Hope you feel good, hope you feel better, ooh!

Heavy Notes: If I had to describe the song (and chart), I'd say "peppy". The
streams aren't too bad, but they'll be offbeat sometimes, as will the
freezes. Nothing too harrowing, though.

---

Song Type: Public Domain
First Appearance: Mambo A Go Go
DDR Debut: DDR Extreme (Arcade)
Misc. Notes: A classic Mexican folk tune, created in the Mexican state of
Veracruz around 300 years ago, where it was often played at weddings. That
practice has slowed a bit in recent centuries.

Genre: Euro Trance*
BPM: 140-145

Difficulty:

Play Notes: The song starts at 140, but only for a few measures before it
settles into 145 for the rest of the song.

Heavy Notes: Ugh. A pain in the padded butt. This chart can't seem to get
near a decent rhythm, or rather, it wants to follow the synth notes in their
odd-beat setup. Read carefully so you can pick up all the really odd steps.
Watch for gallops and sixteenths.

Lyrics:

Follow your dreams, follow your heart
Follow your dreams, follow your heart
Follow your dreams, follow your heart
Follow your dreams, follow your heart

When the world seems so lost in itself
and you feel that life is not so easy on you
Don't forget that you're not by yourself
For together we can make this world a better place

Give it a chance (There's time to save this planet now)
Give us a hand
Find the way to help Mother Earth (It is not too late to give her a chance)
Help make her proud (We can work a way to building up a new future)

The twinkling stars are watching from above (Keeping an eye on us)

What we do today can make another difference (Open your heart and your mind)
What we do today can make another difference (To the world now)
(Make a difference)
What we do today can make another difference (Open your heart and your mind)
What we do today can make another difference (To the world, do it now)

Lyrics:

Believe...

Ohhhhh

Don't be sad
It can't be that bad
There's nothing to fear
Your broken heart will mend
A new love will come to you
Shining through

Look, look at the stars
And you've got to visualize
There's someone still in your heart
I know it's really true

I know they're waiting
Baby, waiting only, only for you
Just have faith, keep your head up
And watch your love for me

Believe in your dreams
'Cause, you can make them come true
Just let yourself go (let yourself go)
You've got to believe
That happy thoughts will come
It's plain to see

Ohhh ohh ohh

Please just remember
When you're feeling down and blue
There is someone waiting for you
Someone just like you

Believe in your dreams
The world is waiting for you
It's all up to you

You've got to believe
It will be okay, another day

Believe in your dreams
Life is not what it seems
Just try to believe (try to believe)
Just bring out the light
Love will take you there

Play Notes: Several seconds into the song, it will slow down to half speed,
then pick back up to normal speed after a couple of measures.

Heavy Notes: The slowdown spot is full of off-beats, and it speeds back up in
the middle of a stream, so make sure you know where it is. After that, it's
mid-length streams with crossovers, and some off-beat freezes.

---

Lyrics:

Tell me you love me, I'm so crazy, so crazy in love with you

So crazy, so crazy, your love, there ain't nothing I can do

Try to escape from this love and surprise me
You, you hold the key to set me free, my love

I'm so totally into you
There is nothing I can do
I'm so totally into you
All the time, my baby

I try to break from this passion that binds me
But, what, what can I do, when it's just you I see?

I'm so head over heels over you
There ain't nothing I can do
I'm so totally into you
Over you, my baby

Totally into you
What am I supposed to do?

pad. Also, a few spots with small sixteenth clusters.

---

Lyrics:

Uletaj na kryl'jach vetra

English Translation:

Fly on the wings of the wind

where me and you felt so freely

There beneath the burning sky
Languid breezes cooled us

Heavy Notes: This song's mostly pretty easy streams, with some freezes thrown
in. It picks up in difficulty near the end, but not all that much.

Challenge Notes: Streams and more streams. A large part near the beginning
and the middle is psuedo-triplets. There's a long sixteenth cluster just as
the beginning gets underway. There's also a spot in the latter half that
is almost entirely off-beat.

---

Song Type: Konami Original
First Appearance: Dance ManiaX 2nd Mix

UNLOCK: Mission D-47

Artist: RevenG
Genre: Spiritual*
BPM: 14-320

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 3
LGT: 5 6
STD: 8 8
HVY: 10 10
CHA: 9 9

Play Notes: The song begins at 300 BPM and remains there for some time.
About a third of the way through the song, it drops to 150, hangs there for
a few measures, then begins a slowdown all the way to 14. Then after the
slow measure, it goes back up to 150 for several more measures, then makes a
big jump up to 320, where it goes for the rest of the song until the last
few measures, where it quickly slows down to about 90 over the course of
those measures.

Heavy Notes: Many people consider this a difficult 9-footer, as there are
9-footers more difficult than this, but it's still a great challenge, if for
nothing else than the fluctuating speed. The 300 part is pretty simple,
some gallops, but mostly quarter notes. Once it drops to 150, it's pretty
much a constant stream, with a freeze and one step on the really slow part.
The next 150 part has more gallops and some sixteenths, the 320 part has
mostly quarters and a few more eighths than the first part, with doubles
marking the orchestra hits near the end, and the slowdown at the end is one
stream, which you have to adjust with as it slows down.

Challenge Notes: Basically a stripped down version of the Heavy steps.
Fewer steps on the 300 part. The first 150 part has breaks in the stream.
There's no step at 21. The second 150 part has no gallops or sixteenths, and
the 320 part has again fewer steps. The slowdown is quarter notes.

up to 180 for the rest of the song.

Heavy Notes: Once you get truly underway, the biggest problem comes from
lengthy, but easy, streams at the fast tempo. No real surprises.

Challenge Notes: The streams are now a bit more complicated and a bit longer,
and there are also some chaotic off-beat steps to take care of.

Lyrics:

Hey yeah, hey yeah, hey yeah, mmmm...

Love is in the air
It started one weekend
That's when I knew love would begin
If he would just give, give me some time

I walked up and asked
If he liked to slow dance
He nodded his head and he said "Yes"
I knew he would fall for me

Everybody said itd never last
Said that I'm dreaming, and I'm going to fast
Oh, don't believe us when you hear what you hear, I say yeah
Saturday night

I'm getting ready for the time of my life, girl
I want this man, so I put up the fight
If you believe in love, wave your hands and say yeah
Saturday night

Sunday night, it began for you
Tuesday night, we'll make dreams come true
You'll hold on, 'cause one night just won't do
Just to find you'll be lovin' me, too

Saturday night is for love, so lets get this right!

Play Notes: The song begins at 95, then picks up to the standard 190. There
are two small stops in the latter half of the tune.

Heavy Notes: The opener is a lot of sixteenths, but a repetitive rhythm. Once
the song gets underway, the streams get long, twisty, and with jumps thrown
into the beginning of some. It's a pretty high-end eight-footer.

Play Notes: There's a tiny stop just after the verse and before the last
chorus. It lasts about a beat.

Heavy Notes: This is a pretty tough nine-footer. I base that around the fact
that there are plenty of odd steps: triplets, sixteenth gallops, plenty of
freezes with steps in them. The fact that it's pretty fast doesn't help
either.

---

Lyrics:

Let's go!

offbeat. The middle has the most chaos, focused around gallops and offbeat
steps.

BPM: 150

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 4
STD: 5 5
HVY: 6 7
CHA: 7 8

Heavy Notes: For the most part, you'll find small streams and quarters.
There are a few tough spots, such as a couple of streams of three double
steps, and during the bridge, you'll step two eighths, three sixteenths, then
another eighth, then a quarter, and do that for a while. You may think it
follows the music, but it doesn't.

Challenge Notes: The streams have become longer, but not too much. The
bridge of the song now actually follows the rhythm of the song, which can
possibly make these steps easier than the original Heavy steps.

---

Lyrics:

C'mon, let's go, here we go,
Jump jump jump everybody.
Jump up and have a hell of a time, get down.

Get involved, c'mon 'cmon.
Jump jump jump, let go.
Everybody knows how to get down.

Jump jump jump, get involved.
Jump jump jump, get involved.
Jump jump jump, get involved.
Everybody knows how to get down.

C'mon, let's go, here we go,
Jump jump jump everybody.
Jump up and have a hell of a time, get down.

Get involved, c'mon 'cmon.
Jump jump jump, let go.
Everybody knows how to get down

Genre: Euro Groove*
BPM: 155

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 4
STD: 6 6
HVY: 7 8

Heavy Notes: The streams don't get very long, and there's no turning

follow the synthesizer hits.

---

Lyrics:

(Look out on the dancefloor)
(It's waiting for you)
It's time to burn

Burn, burn, burn's the fix
And tell me, do you really wanna roll with this
The heat is on, it's time to move
So where you know just what to do
The temperatures rising, no way out
Going too far, can't stop now
So let me know if you feel it, too
When the fire gets inside of you

Where have, you been all of my life
I've been, looking for you
I wanna dance through, dark into the daylight with you
I wanna burn!

Burn, burn, burn the world, burn
The rhythm's hard to ignore
Set up a big fire
I just don't care anymore!

Let's make it special, on a dance floor
I can read the signs, but I can't use the lore
Let's get it up, 'cause now's the time
I really wanna make you mine tonight
Let's put in the fight
You and me, on a fantasy
And if you really wanna learn, I'm gonna show you how to burn

Burn, burn, burn, you burn me
You body's talking to mine (you burn me)
Sizzling sensation, our bodies like it in time (oh yeah!)

UNLOCK: Mission X-12

Artist: Be For U
Genre: J-Pop
BPM: 155

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 4
STD: 5 6
HVY: 8 7

Heavy Notes: Well, the good news is that there's very little turning. The
bad news is that about every other hard element is in this song. Double
steps at the beginning of streams, gallops in the beginning, middle, and end,
and a chaotic ending, following the music. Also, there are several double
and triple taps on single arrows throughout.

6E. DYNAMITE RAVE =
===================

UNLOCK: Mission C-01

Artist: NAOKI
Genre: Speed Rave*
BPM: 150

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 5 5
STD: 7 6
HVY: 9 8
CHA: 9 8

Heavy Notes: This song will definitely wear you down if you're not used to
catas. It has everything a good cata should, though: long streams,
sixteenths thrown in, double steps on some of the shorter streams, and
chaos. At the beginning, you'll have to deal with some syncopation, as the
first four notes are on the eighth-note beat, the next three are off, and the
last two aren't, and that keeps up for several measures. Once the verse
starts, you'll have eighths with groups of three sixteenths regularly thrown
in. You'll get a bit of a respite from sixteenths once you get to the
chorus, but those are replaced with doubles-in-streams, and long streams,
then back to the second verse for more sixteenths, and then back to the
chorus for more long streams and doubles. Good luck to you.

Challenge Notes: Possibly a bit simpler than the original Heavy steps, but
not by much. There are more crossovers to focus on, and a few freezes to
deal with, but not too much has changed conceptually from these new steps.

Lyrics:

1, 2, 3, 4
Dynamite Rave!

Come on everybody!
(go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go)
And get on the floor, yeah

Techno, rave
It's time to make a stand
and pave the way
Some might say
Let it go
Stay with the flow
Stay on beat
Move your feet
On concrete
Or on the dance floor
You want more
Then I'll give you more
If it's too hardcore
Let me know
I'll stop the show
Then bring it back
To be exact
At 12 o'clock
Rock the spot
It's too damn hot
They told me so
Dynamite rave
It's on the down low
Use your inner glow
To make a move
Show and prove
The man with the lisp
Sounds so crisp
When you can see me
On TV
On the radio
Here me blow

I don't wanna give up
We're gonna have a party
Have a really great time
Yeah Yeah!
Just feel the heat
Listen to the music
and feel that beat

C'mon, get up
C'mon, c'mon
Let me hear ya
Let me hear ya

C'mon, get up
C'mon, c'mon
Let me hear ya
Let me hear ya

Jump jump
Do your thing
This be the bomb
Try to sing
Narrator king
Spread your wings
Make your head ring
To this song
All night long
Jack your body
To this party
Feel the pain
When you strain
Don't refrain
Please don't stop
Until you drop

I don't wanna give up
We're gonna have a party
Have a really great time
Yeah Yeah!
Just feel the heat
Listen to the music
and feel that beat, yeah!

Genre: Trance
BPM: 140

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 1
LGT: 4 3
STD: 5 5
HVY: 7 7

Heavy Notes: This isn't too hard at all. Really, it could be seen as just an
excuse to throw freeze arrows into LTTS. Anyway, there's very little
turning, streams are quite simple, and there's no chaos whatsoever. Should
be a relatively easy seven-footer to AA.

Lyrics:

S.O.T.A.

Feeling sad and lonely
Cause I can't find you
Call your telephone
And there's never no answer
Said you love me
Kissed me
We were in heaven
Said I'm sorry
Love you, want you forever

Every night I look at the sky
Call your name
And wonder where you are
Every night I look at the sky
Baby, miss you
Won't you come back

Artist: 180
Genre: Jungle
BPM: 180

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 2
LGT: 6 7
STD: 7 8
HVY: 8 9

Heavy Notes: Like the TRIP MACHINES, the PARANOiAs tend to follow the music
closely. Also, you'll find much of the same stepwise. Short streams, turns,
wacky rhythms, but nothing truly chaotic, only faster than the TRIP MACHINES.
The original also has some repeated taps on the same arrow during a stream
that are designed to wear your feet out at that speed. These show up near the
end, so watch out.

Song Type: Konami Original
First Appearance: DDRMAX2: DDR 7th Mix (Arcade)
Artist Notes: RE-VENGE is the same as RevenG, a Naoki psuedonym.
Misc. Notes: This piece was originally in DDRMAX2 as a secret song only
playable through an Oni Course. It was first selectable as a song in DDR
Extreme for the arcade. So, what's a "Nonstop Megamix"? Well, the deal is
that Konami and Toshiba-EMI release soundtracks for the DDR games in Japan.
These soundtracks consist of two discs. One has all the new songs to that
mix, and the other disc has them all in a giant continuous track called a
"Nonstop Megamix", which basically connects them all through intros and
outros and throws DDR sound effects and voice in. Sometimes (like in the
case with SEXY PLANET), the music is changed a bit to fit the NSMM better, or
how the composers are feeling that day.

Lyrics:

Burn, burn, burn the world, burn
Ignore
Set up a big fire
I just don't care anymore!

Let's make it special, on a dance floor
I can read the signs, but I can't use the lore
Let's get it up, 'cause now's the time
I really wanna make you mine tonight
Let's put in the fight
You and me, on a fantasy
And if you really wanna learn, I'm gonna show you how to burn

Burn, burn, burn's the fix
And tell me, do you really wanna roll with this
The heat is on, it's time to move
So where you know just what to do
The temperatures rising, no way out
Going too far, can't stop now
So let me know if you feel it, too
When the fire gets inside of you

Where have, you been all of my life
I've been, looking for you
I wanna dance through, dark into the daylight with you
I wanna burn!

(Look out on the dancefloor)
(It's waiting for you)
It's time to burn

Burn, burn, burn, you burn me
Your body's talking to mine (you burn me)
Sizzling sensation, our bodies like it in time (oh yeah!)
You know we gonna burn, burn, burn the fire, they don't make it anymore (talk
to me)
Fire in big waves, yeah. I've got you burning the floor
Burnin' the floor!

8. RED SONGS (BOSS SONGS)
******************************************************************************

No pussy-footing this year, and no "psuedo" boss songs like MAXIMIZER. These
two songs are the total challenge, and, naturally, they're unlocked rather
late in the process.

=======================
8A. PARANOIA survivor =
=======================

UNLOCK: Mission X-29

Artist: 270
Genre: Jungle Mixture
BPM: 135-270

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 3
LGT: 5 6
STD: 8 8
HVY: 10 10

Play Notes: There are three spots where the song slows down to half speed,
and it's tough for me to say where they show up, but let me say that they're
all in the first half, and with the frequency you'll play this song trying
to master it, you'll learn quick.

Heavy Notes: Short streams for the most part. The slowdowns feature steps
with the music. The streams start both on and off the beat. Once you hit
the two long freezes, your streams will get longer and longer. And, of
course, a BPM of 270 for your troubles. I'd say it's about as hard as MAX
300, maybe a little easier, or not.

8B. PARANOIA survivor MAX =
===========================

UNLOCK: Mission E-13

Artist: 290
Genre: Jungle Mixture*
BPM: 73-290

Difficulty:
Sgl Dbl
BEG: 3
LGT: 5 6
STD: 8 8
HVY: 10 10
CHA: 10! 10!

Play Notes: Very much like PARANOIA survivor. There are the three slowdowns
in the first half to half-speed. At the two freezes, the song slows down
to 73, then there's one more half-speed slowdown near the end. Oh, and
although this seems to be just a faster version of PARANOIA survivor, there
are several extra seconds of music thrown in at the end.

Heavy Notes: Very much like PARANOIA survivor Heavy, for the most part,
except it's Mirrored. Of course, the extra section at the end is its own,
but not too difficult on its own.

Challenge Notes: This is it, folks. The hardest official DDR stepchart in
existence. The streams are all longer, and there's far FAR less time to
relax in between them. And that's about it. There are no tricks or secrets
besides the slowdown sections, which you should be familiar with by now.
All it takes here is a sharp eye and a very VERY high stamina. 613 steps of
pain. It can be done.

---

Lyrics:

Sound!

for all his PARANOiA mixes.
Misc. Notes: See the original PARANOiA for info on the other mixes.

9. ADVANCED MODE
******************************************************************************

These are the more difficult modes of play. At the outset, only "Course"
is available to you, and you'll need to unlock the other options through
Dance Master Mode.

============
9A. Course =
============

This is a combination of the old Nonstop and Oni modes of play. You begin by
selecting your style and character. After that, you select the "Meter":

Normal: Standard Dance Meter. This is the "Nonstop" play, where you just go
through the songs all at once.

Challenge: Battery Dance Meter. Step anything but a MARVELLOUS, PERFECT,
GREAT, or OK and you lose one of your four lives. Lose all four and it's
game over. After passing a song, you gain back all lives you lost. This is
the "Oni" style of play.

After that, you'll select your course. Each course has two difficulties:
Normal and Difficult, and you can select options for the course as well, if
the course allows it. Your score is tallied as normal, regardless of which
meter you selected, but you get a secondary score which relates to how well
you were stepping:

MARVELLOUS: 3 points
PERFECT: 2 points
GREAT: 1 point
OK (Freeze Arrow): 3 points
Everything Else: 0 points

At the end of your play, your score is ranked next to the maximum possible
score.

Also available is a "Create Your Own Course". You may create ten of your
own courses using the "ORDER" slots. They all start at RANDOM and four songs
long on Standard, but you can change any of these attributes, including
options in each of the songs.

9B. Endless =
=============

To unlock this mode, you must purchase all 50 locked songs from the Shop.

The object of this mode is to play for as long as possible on a standard Dance
Meter.

You'll begin by selecting your style. Only Single and Double plays are
available for this mode. After that, you'll make your Endless Settings:

Step: Select your difficulty - Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, or Random.
Break Stage: Set a break stage after a certain number of songs.
Select Options: Pick your step options as you would in normal play.
Music Program: Set your program of songs that you wish to play, if you wish
to only include or disclude particular songs.

==============
9C. Survival =
==============

To unlock this mode, you must purchase all 50 locked songs from the Shop.

This mode is similar to Endless Mode, only instead of a Dance Meter, you have
a Challenge Meter with four lives. You'll still be able to select style
(Single or Double) and your difficulty (Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy,
or All).

So, just ignore that gigantic clock in the middle of the screen.

=====================
9D. Combo Challenge =
=====================

To unlock this mode, you must purchase all 50 locked songs from the Shop.

This mode is similar to Endless Mode, only instead of a Dance Meter, you have
to keep a combo running. As soon as you break combo, the game's over. You'll
still be able to select style (Single or Double) and your difficulty
(Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, or All).

And, for your reference, you have a gigantic combo meter in the center of the
screen.

******************************************************************************
10. DANCE MASTER MODE
******************************************************************************

This is now considered the "true" single-player experience for the home DDR.
Playing through these missions is essential to cement your status as a
masterful DDR player.

Okay. Bad news first. This is the faster way to access new songs/courses/
costumes/etc. for purchase in the Shop. You can also unlock stuff through
Free Play for Advanced, but it's a lot slower.

The good news is that any songs and courses you play all the way through will
be saved as records, so you won't have to worry about doing it later.

As you may expect, what you need to do is play through every one of these
missions and meet their conditions for passing to unlock more.

There are four types of missions:

1. Yellow Border - Normal Mission. Has standard set of requirements, for the
most part.
2. Red Border - Special Mission. Most of these are necessary to "complete"
an area and unlock another. Completing these will earn you the song or
course you played in the shop. Also, you'll get a "prize" for completing
any of these.
3. Green Border - Course Mission. You'll need to play through a series of
songs to pass the mission.
4. Blue Border - Handicap Mission. You're required NOT to step on certain
arrows for the course of this mission.

Looking at a mission will give you the mission's name (a letter, then a
number), and the song/course you'll be playing, and its step difficulty.
There's a meter giving you the mission's general difficulty from 1 to 10.
Beneath the song's graphic is a green meter showing how much of the song you'll
be playing (which is most often the entire song). Also noted on each mission
panel is the Dance Meter you'll be using (Normal or Challenge, with the number
of lives), then the missions attempts and successes. On the bottom of the
panel are two icons. The one on the left (the arrow) is lit up when certain
options are activated. The one on the right (the star) is lit up when you
have a challenge besides just passing the song.

Lastly, the panel (as well as the small square for each mission) has a symbol
based on your status on it:
An X: You've attempted but haven't passed the mission.
Silver Star: You've passed the mission.
Red Star: You've fully passed the mission. For most missions, this requires
you to pass with a full combo. For missions that prevent you from getting a
full combo, just passing it will give you a red star.

Now, this is how I've arranged them below:

Mission #: Mission Difficulty UNLOCK: (mission required to unlock this one)
Song/Course: (What you're playing in this mission)
Diff.: (The difficulty of song you're playing)
Section: (The section of the song you're playing. I haven't listed it if
you're playing the whole song.)
Options: (Any of the options turned on for this mission.)
Challenge: (What you're required to do to complete the mission. I haven't
listed it if all you have to do is pass the song.)
Secret Challenge: (What you need to do to unlock hidden missions.)
Extra Arrow: 30 of these missions have an invisible Extra Arrow, which, if
you hit it, will give you 1000 extra Shop Points. I point out where in
the mission it is.
Reward: (If you get the song/purchase after passing the mission.)

As one final note, I'd like to point out that for any mission that gives you a
score threshold, you should know that that means the score AFTER the bonus,
so remember that it applies and brings a potential seven million up to ten
million.

=============
10A. AREA A =
=============

To begin with, the game will force you what Missions you'll be able to select.
You'll begin only being able to select 1 or 2, then 3 or 4, and so on, up
until the seventh and eighth missions. Once you pass one of those, you have
access to the whole grid and may play any missions in the area you wish.

I shouldn't have to tell you that these first missions are total cakewalks.

SECRET CHALLENGE: Get OK for all Freeze Arrows and get 180 PERFECTs or more.
EXTRA ARROW: Measure 11, there's a right arrow between the third and third-and-
a-half beats (sixteenths notes). This is in the slow section. The measure
before has an up/up/left stream, then an down/down/up, then the measure of
has a right/right/left, then left/left/right. That last one is the one
you're looking for. Squish a right arrow in between those two lefts.

Challenge: Okay. Here's how this weird thing goes. Just hammer on one or two
arrows as much as you can, but AVOID all the actual arrow steps. If you get
anything but Boos, you fail, but stepping on nothing will actually get you
a point. Personally, I like to focus on the left and right arrows, since
they seem to be avoided for this song. Also, jumps don't count unless you
step on both, so you're allowed to hit one of the two arrows in a jump and
not fail. You need 150 points to pass this mission.

Song: I will Survive
Diff.: STD (6)
Options: Arrow Type 3 (Flat), Simultaneous Step Off 1
Challenge: Stepping on a down arrow will immediately fail you. Get PERFECTs or
GREATs on all other steps.
EXTRA ARROW: Figures that it's a down arrow. It's on Measure 13, so you know
it's pretty early. The measure before has left, right/right, down/down, and
the measure of has up, left/left, then right on the fourth beat. The down
arrow you need to step on is an eighth before that last right.
Notes: It's not easy turning off a step in your mind. You may wanna tape a
piece of paper or a ruler over the down arrow to block those steps. Also,
be careful, because with Flat on, the off-beat steps aren't as distinct.

Notes: Not easy by any stretch. The 5th song is DYNAMITE RAVE with Challenge
steps.
Reward: This course for purchase (3000)

X-19: |||||..... UNLOCK: C-22 (Secret) or X-18 (Secret)
Song: ABSOLUTE (Cuff-N-Stuff it Mix)

Challenge: Play until the end of Stage 3 to pass, but you can keep going.
SECRET CHALLENGE: Pass with a score of more than 36 million.
Reward: This course for purchase (3000)

X-22: ||||||.... UNLOCK: C-33 (Secret)
Song: SAKURA
Diff.: STD (8)
EXTRA ARROW: It's in the beginning somewhere, and it's a left arrow between
the second and third beat. Just keep tapping left as the song starts. If
you hit arrows, you've gone too far and should start over.
Notes: Sorry, but you do NOT get to unlock SAKURA after passing this. That
comes later.

X-23: ||||||.... UNLOCK: D-4 (Secret) or D-16 (Secret)

X-24: ||||||.... UNLOCK: D-10 (Secret)
Song: BOOM BOOM DOLLAR (K.O.G G3 MIX)
Diff.: STD (7)
Challenge: Get a max combo of 110 or more.
SECRET CHALLENGE: Get a max combo of 200 EXACTLY.
Notes: Okay. Here's how I do the secret. There are 246 steps, right? One
would think to shoot for 200 then jump out on the 201st, but that step's in
the middle of one really long stream, making it really tough to pin down.
What I suggest is to get a 45 combo, then not get the 46th (which is the last
of a three note stream), and then get all the rest of the steps, making 200
at the very end. Either way is tough, of course.

X-25: |||||||... UNLOCK: D-14 (Secret)

SECRET CHALLENGE: Get more than 200 MARVELLOUSes. Pretty darn tough, as
there are less than 277 steps and getting a MARVELLOUS isn't as easy as a
PERFECT.

X-34: ||||||||.. UNLOCK: E-04 (Secret)
Song: BOOM BOOM DOLLAR (K.O.G G3 MIX)
Diff.: HVY (8)
Options: Brake
Challenge: Pass the song with no more than one GOOD, Almost, or Boo.
Notes: The "Brake" option is a reverse Boost. Instead of speeding up, the
arrows slow down as they approach the Step Zone. This a VERY difficult song
for this option to be on. All I can say is to memorize the Heavy chart as
well as you can, because the streams go all over the place.

X-35: ||||||||.. UNLOCK: E-03 (Secret)
Song: DAIKENKAI
Diff.: CHA (8)
Challenge: Get 8 million points or more.

X-36: |||||||... UNLOCK: Purchase Selection 9 after X-35 and finding all

Challenge: Get a grade of A or higher.

X-37: ||||||||.. UNLOCK: E-08 (Secret)
Song: AFRONOVA PRIMEVAL
Diff.: HVY (9)
Challenge: Get 8.5 million points or more.
EXTRA ARROW: Measure 35, a down arrow between the second and third beat.
The previous measure has a right, up-down jump, right, left-down jump, and
the measure of has right/left/down, then right/down/left, so the addition of
the extra arrow makes it right/left/down/down/right/down/left.

THE LAST: |||||||||. UNLOCK: Complete all other missions, including extras.
Song: butterfly (UPSWING MIX)
Diff.: CHA (9)
Options: Reverse, Boost, Custom Arrow 4 (butterflies)
Challenge: Get a full combo on this, the final mission.
Reward: 500,000 Shop Points, Mission Mode Credits

******************************************************************************
11. OTHER MODES
******************************************************************************

Here are the rest of the game modes.

===================
11A. Workout Mode =
===================

This mode allows you to observe the calories melting away as you dance.

---

Workout Setting

Weight: Set this and the amount of calories burned will be slightly changed
to reflect your weight.

Menu: Set to "Play Time" to play a specific amount of time. Set to "Calories
Burned" and you'll play until you reach that number of calories. Set to
"Program" and you can set your own workout course (like a Nonstop). "No
Setting" will let you have no restrictions.

Goal: Set to minutes if "Play Time" is on Menu, and to a calorie amount if
"Calories Burned is on Menu.

Workout Step: With this on, the steps will be set to "Little".

Simultaneous Step: Turning this off will remove jumps.

Program: Select Free to have the normal song list, or Course to access some
preset courses the game gives you, or courses you can order yourself.

---

Workout Results

After every song (or at the end of your program), you'll see a Workout Results
screen where you can see your calorie-related results. Press Circle to see
them charted in relation to other day's workouts.

==================
11B. Lesson Mode =
==================

Select this to learn basic lessons about DDR. An onscreen character will
guide you, and you have to match what it does. "For Beginners" is largely
basic steps. "For Regular Players" will throw in some different kinds of
movements. "Fancy Footwork" will throw eighth notes into the mix as well as
some fancy moves.

====================
11C. Training Mode =
====================

Select this to pick songs and tackle them on your own terms. Start by
selecting a song, then you'll go to the menu screen, where you can select the
mode (Single, Versus, Double), its difficulty, any song options you want (as
detailed in the How To Dance section far above), and you may put in any Edit
Data you wish.

In addition (unlike other modes of gameplay), you can set Assist, which
allows you to play with any combination of the music, a metronome (which
marks standard quarter note beats), and a handclap (which claps whenever
there's an arrow).

Also, you can set the "Music Speed". Unlike the song option called Speed,
this actually changes how fast the song goes. It's good for taking fast
songs at speeds you can manage. Adjusting this to a lower amount will
automatically turn off the music, so you'll need to set the metronome or
handclap on if you want something in the background.

Finally, you can set what measure the song begins and ends. The "Start"
function below it will allow you to quickly change between the measures you
select and the whole song.

================
11D. Edit Mode =
================

Well, I'm not gonna go through all the possibilities that Edit Mode offers
here. Honestly, if you're serious about Editing, you'll probably know to
read the instructions on this one. Seriously, there's too much info about it
for me to justify making a section for it.

******************************************************************************
12. ONLINE PLAY
******************************************************************************

Well, I don't have a broadband adapter for my PS2, and no real desire to get
one. However, I will say that this is a very bare-bones setup for online
play. You can't pick who you play, and you can't pick your song, either.
However, this is an essential first step for online Playstation DDR play.

******************************************************************************
13. SHOP
******************************************************************************

Okay. EVERYTHING unlockable in this game has to come through here. It's not
enough just to trigger the unlock. You'll need the requisite number of
Shop Points to actually be able to use it.

=========================
13A. Shop Point Formula =
=========================

Okay, every song you play starts you with a base amount of Shop Points. How
you step changes the amount of points you have, and when you finish the song,
the Shop Points you've earned are put into your main "account". While you
can be reduced to 0 points in a song, you can never reduce the amount in
your account just through play.

How many points you start with and can earn are based on the step difficulty
you choose, and the foot rating difficulty.

Course

All courses give a set amount of points for each song you play, which doesn't
change no matter how well or poorly you do. You earn those points for each
song you pass, even if you don't complete the entire course.

Normal Dance Meter: 800 per song
Challenge Meter: 1000 per song

Earning new outfits for characters is simple, really. Just play any five
missions as a character and their second outfit will be available for
purhcase:

J.C.: 200000
SA-JA: 200000
All other characters: 100000

Yeah. I suggest taking all those last as stuff to get after unlocking
everything else.

==================
13E. Information =
==================

There are two types of things to purchase in this section:

Extra Arrows: These arrows are invisible, and are inserted into Missions.
Hitting any Extra Arrow immediately gives you 1000 Shop Points. As far as
I know, there is no reward for hitting all 30. Once you pass a Mission
that has an Extra Arrow, the hint for it will be up for grabs for 1000
points. This hint gives you a two measure spread, pointing out the arrow in
the My Room section.

If you wish to know where in the song each of these are, go to the Dance
Master section for the Mission indicated.

All of them cost 1000 points.

Hints: These are basic hints which give you clues on how to do Secret
Challenges in Dance Master Mode to unlock Hidden Missions. I'm not sure
how they're unlocked to be available for purchase, but meeting their
requirements before buying them will give them to you for free.

Hints cost between 1000 and 3000. I don't know the whole price list, because
of the free ones I got, but it's not really important for something that
cheap.

Here's the full list:

Hint 01: B-06 - Get a grade of A or higher.
Hint 02: B-30 - Do not get more than 6.5 million points.
Hint 03: A-05 - Get a grade of AA or higher.
Hint 04: B-34 - Get 30 million points or more.
Hint 05: X-08 - Get 8.5 million points or more.
Hint 06: B-45 - Get less than 4 GOODs.
Hint 07: X-03 - Get less than 5 GREATs.
Hint 08: C-04 - Get a grade of exactly C.
Hint 09: C-12 - Get 8.5 million points or more.
Hint 10: C-17 - Get OK for all Freeze Arrows.

Hint 29: X-28 - Get a grade of AA or higher.
Hint 30: E-06 - Do not get more than 8.6 million points.

By the way, these are NOT all the Secret Challenges in the game. If any
other Missions have Secret Challenges, I list them in that mission.

=============
13F. Custom =
=============

So far as I can tell, these are just a set of three new arrow types to use
in the game, if you wish. They seem to pop up at random, except for Arrow 4,
which I got after Mission B-07.

They each cost 2000 to switch to them, then another 100 to switch back to
Arrow 1, the regular arrows.

Arrow 2: Gradius ships
Arrow 3: Chevrons
Arrow 4: Butterflies

- Make sure it has something to do with DDR Extreme 2. I don't want spam,
chain letters, offers for friendship. Don't bother me with info on other DDR
games, really. I keep my ear pretty close to the ground about such things,
and I'll probably know about it before you. Compliment me on the FAQ all you
want, though.
- Make sure you say "DDR Extreme 2" at one point in your e-mail. I have more
than one DDR FAQ, and I can't always figure the question out without
specifying what game you're asking about.
- Asking how to beat a song will result in a deletion. There really are no
tips to offer for DDR'ing besides what I have in my section. It has to come
from your own skill and desire to pass.
- Spell correctly and use proper grammar, please. If I can't understand
your e-mail, it'll go to the junk pile.
